What is PS3 Downgrade?
PS3 downgrade, from the name of it is to go from Higher PS3 firmware to a lower one, and to be specific PS3 Downgrade is to go down from any FW (Firmware) more than 3.55 and go down to 3.55
What is the purpose of PS3 Downgrade?
The main purpose of PS3 downgrade is to install CFW (Custom Firmware), which is used to run games backups, Homebrews, emulators…etc.
Is there any other way than Downgrade a PS3?
Unfortunately, if your PS3 System Firmware is more than 3.55 you need to downgrade. Till this date.
How to know Your PS3 System Firmware?
To know your PS3 System Firmware, go To Setting->System Settings-> System Information (and there you have your System information. As explained in the Next Photos
What if My System Firmware is 3.55 or less?
If your Firmware is 3.55 and below, you are one lucky Guy, to hack your PS3 is just a file you put in a Fat32 USB and stick it on the PS3. DONE. But we will not talk about it now.
Why the 3.55 Firmware is the bass of PS3 Hack?
When First fail0verflow release their PS3 exploit and Geohot used it to release 3.55 CFW. It was the breaking point for Sony, Sony made a lot of changes after words in both Hardware and software in the PS3 and increased the security and made it impossible for later PS3 to be hacked. (Irony here PSP Master Key was stored in the PS3 and all PSP get hacked after that).
So Are All PS3s are Downgradable?
1- Simple Answer No, all PS3 that came from Sony Factory with System Firmware 3.56 or less can be downgraded (with Rare Cases for 3.60 FW PS3) and any PS3 with FW from Sony Factory 3.60 and more are not downgradable and any attempt to do that will brick your system.
2- Another way to know the PS3is downgradable, is the PS3 Model (as seen in Photo#2):
o All Fat Models are Downgradables
o Slims with Model No: CECH-25xx and less are downgradable, SomeSlims with Model CECH – 25xx and all CECH -30xx are NOT downgradable.
o All Super Slims are NOT downgradable at all.
3- Last Method if you still not certain in the Slim PS3s, Download Minimum Checker Version File (Link: )
Put it in Fat32 USB, the directories should be as in following image
