Are you loading the game from disk or via Hdd/Usb?

There's really no need to undertake any of those steps Lucy,if there was an actual software corruption of some sort you would attempt to rebuild you're data base,or at the least if incorrect files have been applied to the game update ( eboot etc
) could also corrupt that specific game update + cause the game to crash, but games freezing via disk usually refer to either a disk issue ( damaged etc ) or possibly a laser issue,on the rare occasion I have come across GPU's causing games to freeze.

What I would try first is:

# check you're disk for scratches and clean it!

# try another game via disk to see if you receive the same outcome.

# delete you're current games data utility completely and fresh install again, rebuilding the data base would delete the game data utility but will also delete any other content you have on you're PS3 ( save data etc )
