Do we need a special EBOOT with this or just pop the files in the mp/maps folder? Also what button combo launches the menu? Dying to try this!

No, you shouldn't need a specific eboot, i recall a small amount of people freezing though upon injection, from memory i am certain it was because i exceeded the injection limit ( maybe ), if you do freeze upon injection use the Terminus injector which will fix this issue.
If i recall correctly UP on the directional pad is to open the menu, just been so long since i have used it due to lack of motivation.
